    Description

ANTIQUE LARGE TINTYPE OUTDOORS TAKEN IN NEW HOPE OHIO IN PREBLE COUNTY OF TWO MEN AND LADIES PLAYING CROQUET ACROSS FROM THE OLD INN. Might be about 1870s-80s. Measures 5 1/2” X 4 1/4”. From private estate that put a long description on the back. George and Samuel Kepler and Lydia and Lillie Surface. It says that George is a cousin to Samuel and both are married to Lillie and Lydia whose maiden names are Surface. According to records, there was a George Kepler born in 1790 who died in Preble county and an Eli Surface born in Preble county who died in 1865. The ladies are probably sisters and are the children of Eli. The tintype is very clear except the Inn across the road is slightly blurred. All 4 are holding croquet mallets with one having his foot on two balls and I see two wickets. In VG+ condition with no rust or heavy scratches on the image and almost perfectly flat with no dents.
